Verónica Valdez

CEO, Promart

Passion and perseverance are the key factors that guide my personal and professional path.

I have over 10 years of experience in retail, especially in grocery & home improvement businesses. I worked in finance most of the time, and during this time I have learned to engage finance with the core business, with a focus on efficiency and automatization to adapt to the dynamic conditions of the retail sector.

I was appointed CEO of Promart – the home improvement chain – on March 1st 2020, and it has been an incredible challenge taking on a new role under COVID circumstances in which all of our stores had been closed for almost 3 months. As I look back, I realize that this context has given me the opportunity to learn a lot in a very short period of time: transformation via innovation, efficiency, and most importantly, teamwork.

Promart belongs to Intercorp Retail, which is under the Intercorp umbrella, one of the largest and more diversified business groups in Peru. I began in Promart as CFO and two years later I was appointed CFO of Supermercados Peruanos- food store chain- and three years later I returned to Promart as CEO. Before joining Promart, I held different financial roles at Maestro (home improvement) and Cencosud (grocery stores).

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universidad de Lima and a Senior MBA from Universidad de Piura, which helped me round my strategic vision and consolidate my focus in customer experience and satisfaction.

I firmly believe that if you understand your customer’s needs and align your company’s purpose and culture around them, you will accomplish amazing results of solid growth in the market.
