The ten largest DIY store operators in Germany have roughly maintained their sales growth of 2018 but, generally speaking, are losing momentum nationally. This is according to initial, still provisional, calculations by the Dähne Verlag publishing house. According to these calculations, the top 10 in the DIY trade in Germany increased their totalled gross sales last year by around 1.6 per cent to a volume of EUR 20.657 bn. In 2017 the rate of increase still amounted to 1.7 per cent. However in the current statistics, there are still some provisional figures as well as calculations on the basis of estimations. The strongest increases have been by the German Hellweg stores. Their sales have grown by 3.1 per cent. Also significantly above the average is the Eurobaustoff cooperative; their partners achieved an increase in sales of 2.5 per cent with their retail locations. The third company with disproportionately high growth is Bauhaus; the plus by the number two in Germany lies 0.2 percentage points above the average. Market leader Obi keeps its place with a growth of 1.7 per cent, therefore also just above the average. Even though the distance between these two companies continues to reduce, the ranking of the ten largest in Germany remains unchanged. This is also the case when the activities of the German top 10 abroad is taken into account (see separate report on this at DIYinternational.com). The final figures for the German DIY market will be published by Dähne Verlag in its "Statistik Baumarkt + Garten 2019". The volume will be available at the end of May. Data on the international market will be prepared by the German specialist publishing house in the volume "Statistics Home Improvement Retail Europe 2019", which appears mid August.
